Chair Instructions
BEFORE THE SESSION
Decide how you and your co-chair will run the session. It is important that both Chairs share the limelight.
Check the program for any changes to speaking time or order of speakers.
Note that the times indicated in the program are speaking times; each session is timed to allow for questions at the end of each talk:
Invited Speakers: 30-minute talk + 10-minute Q&A
Abstract Presenters: 15-minute talk + 5-minute Q&A
Sparrow Speakers: 20-minute talk + 10-minute Q&A
Lightning Presenters: 12-minute talk + 3-minute Q&A
Before chairing your session, please note the following:
Meet the speakers - introduce yourself, get to know their affiliations, check pronunciations
Meet the technician who will be there to assist
Familiarise yourself with the AV equipment and technical requirements
IMPORTANT: It is very important that chairs adhere to the session schedule, so sessions do not run over time and there is enough time for other presenters to have questions.
CHAIRING YOUR SESSION
The Mantra Lorne AV team will ensure all technical requirements are available at the venue, and will be on-site to assist you.
Please be present in the room at least 15 minutes prior to the start of your session
Once you arrive, familiarise yourself with the stage and technology.
The AV set up will already be logged into the virtual zoom webinar.
Lorne Proteins will be operating with in person presentations only. However there will be a few delegates watching virtually.
When asking questions to a presenter, ensure you both stand directly at the lectern to ensure you are clearly heard on the live stream. If you walk around on the stage, people watching at home will not be able to hear you.
The most important thing is to keep your session running strictly to time.
COLLECTING QUESTIONS DURING THE SESSION
In-person audience members can ask questions with a Q&A mic. There will be two handheld microphones for you and your co-chair to walk around the room for the delegates to ask their questions.
Virtual audience members can only watch the presentations livestream without a channel to ask their questions. Your priority is the in-person audience.
